OVERVIEW
Periodontics is a dental specialty focused on the health of the supporting tissues of the teeth,
emphasizing both the treatment and prevention of related diseases. It also addresses aesthetic
issues caused by the loss of periodontal structures, aiming to restore them effectively.
Periodontists are crucial in diagnosing and planning treatments for oral diseases, as a
comprehensive understanding of periodontal disease progression is essential for predicting
the prognosis of affected teeth. The success of any dental treatment plan heavily relies on the
health of the periodontium, underscoring the indispensable role of periodontists in dental
practice.
Our department is well-equipped with separate undergraduate and postgraduate sections,
featuring modern dental chairs with ultrasonic scalers. Advanced surgical tools, such as sinus
augmentation kits, microsurgical units, ultrasonic bone surgical units, digital centrifuge
machines for regenerative procedures, laser units, digital intraoral radiographs (RVG), and
diverse implant surgical kits, are notable highlights. Additionally, our library boasts a wide
array of journals with back volumes spanning over two decades.
At the undergraduate level, we provide training both in group settings and individually to
prepare students to diagnose and treat diseases of the supporting tooth structures routinely
and to make appropriate referrals for advanced care. This training also equips students for
further specialization in Periodontics and Implantology.
Our postgraduate program in Periodontics aims to produce graduates who are competent in
teaching, skilled in clinical practice, and active in research. This program includes mandatory
journal clubs and seminar presentations, with a strong emphasis on participation in
conferences. Our students have received accolades for their presentations at various national
and international conferences.
We provide a platform for students to demonstrate their academic excellence by encouraging
involvement in research activities and scientific paper and poster presentations at various
conferences.
