Paediatric dentistry is an age defined specialty that provides primary and comprehensive preventive therapeutic oral health care for infants, children and adolescents, including those with special health care needs. At the Department of Pedodontics and Preventive Dentistry, Pediatric dentists render the entire gamut of specialty treatment procedures in the disciplines of behavior guidance, care of medically and developmentally compromised patients, supervision of oro-facial growth and development, caries prevention, sedation and pharmacological management, interceptive and preventive orthodontics, restorative dentistry and pulpal procedures. Students are trained in aspects of child psychology, behavior management, preventive dentistry, interceptive orthodontics, management of decayed teeth and traumatic injuries. They are trained in radiology pertaining to children, dental health education and school dental health programme. Students are also given special training for providing dental health care needs for differently abled children.
