OVERVIEW

Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics is the branch of dentistry which deals with the treatment of caries, malformed, discolored, unesthetic, or fractured teeth and Endodontics deals with treatment of pulpal and periapical diseases and dental pain management. This department aims at preserving the natural tooth either by simple filling or by root canal therapy, which otherwise would have been extracted, thus making them functional for a life time. There are 9 trained and dedicated MDS staffs to overlook the matters of the Department. We have Undergraduate and Post graduate students in our department. Our training for students starts from the 1st year onwards. The first 2 years of the BDS course are when we train students to work on models and simulated phantom heads to attune them in the fineness of the work so that they are prepared well when they enter clinics in 3rd year where they have to work on patients. The students are trained to provide aesthetic restorations, silver fillings (amalgam) and anterior root canal treatment at the Undergraduate level. At the Post graduate level, they are trained for more where in addition to what the undergraduates do, they also perform root canals in the posteriors, Endodontic microsurgery, Procedures under operating microscope, Aesthetic procedures including veneers and Bleaching, inlays, revascularization and regeneration procedures. Our department has a detailed “Preclinical Manual” for the use of students in the Preclinical conservative department. Through attending CDE courses, hands on courses and Conferences, both the students and the staffs stay updated. Our Post Graduate students and staffs present papers and posters in National and International conferences. They also publish articles in well-established journals.

UG FACILITY

The provision of various treatment procedures begins with training the students on simulators as pre-clinical training. The department has a well equiped phantom laboratory with simulators and, complete assembly including airotor connections for appropriate training concerned with different treatment modalities. Students are also well trained in academics and patient management at undergraduate level. This includes Amalgam restorations, aesthetic restorations and anterior root canal treatments.

PG FACILITY

  • Treatment modalities include restorative procedures for carious teeth and other defects of the teeth like fracture, attrition, erosion, abrasion. Our branch also deals with esthetic dentistry where in various esthetic treatments like Smile design, Diastema closure, Veneers; Tooth whitening (Vital and Non vital bleaching) are rendered to the patients. The Department improves the smile and appearance of the patients that help to enhance the confidence and self-esteem of the patients who are conscious about their oral health and appearance.
  • Endodontic treatment is performed in teeth with pulpal diseases. Every attempt is made to salvage the badly mutilated teeth, irrespective of the age of the patient bringing the teeth back to normal function and esthetics.
  • In cases requiring advanced treatment options, procedures like Full mouth rehabilitation, guided endodontics Hemisection, Radisection, Apicectomy Splinting, Indirect esthetic restorations like porcelain/Composite inlays and onlays, Veneers, Endodontic crowns, Root canal treatment under General Anesthesia and we specialize in inter departmental management of cases.
  • The department has advanced equipments like the latest surgical operating microscope, Endosonics, Advanced digital radiography like RVG, PSP, Lasers, LED light curing unit, Composites, Air abrasive polishing system, Plasma arc office bleaching equipment, Apex Locators, Endomotors, various thermoplasticized obturating systems like Thermafil and Instrument retrieval kits.
  • There is a well established sterilization room which has B class autoclaves and ultrasonic cleaners which adhere to stringent aseptic protocols
  • The department has a well equipped operatory for surgical endodontic procedures with surgical operating microscope with microsurgical instruments and a well equipped ceramic and casting laboratory.
  • The Department is also equipped with a well stocked Departmental library.
