OVERVIEW

The Department of Microbiology forms an integral part of the dental curriculum, providing students with a strong foundation in understanding microorganisms and their role in oral and systemic diseases. The department focuses on teaching, training, and research in medical and oral microbiology, infection control, immunology, and antimicrobial resistance. With well- equipped laboratories and experienced faculty, the department emphasizes hands-on learning, diagnostic skills, and research exposure to prepare students for clinical and academic excellence. Medical microbiology is the study of microbes (Bacteria, Fungi, Viruses and Parasites) that infect humans, the diseases they cause and their diagnosis , prevention and treatment . It also deals with the response of human host to microbial agents and their antigens.

VISION

To be a center of excellence in microbiology education, research, and diagnostics, fostering innovation and scientific inquiry while contributing to the prevention and control of infectious diseases in oral and general health.

MISSION

To impart quality education in microbiology, integrating theory with practical skills for dental and allied health sciences students. To promote awareness and best practices in infection prevention and control within the clinical setting. To encourage research in emerging areas such as antimicrobial resistance, oral microbiome, and host–pathogen interactions. To provide accurate and reliable microbiological diagnostic services that support patient care. To nurture a culture of ethics, innovation, and lifelong learning among students and faculty.
