OVERVIEW

 Pharmacology is a branch of medicine that deals with the actions of the drugs on living system. In dentistry it is a pre-clinical subject that provide a strong knowledge about the actions, mechanisms, clinical indications, adverse effects, interactions and contraindications which are important in the clinical practice. The Department of Pharmacology, RDCH, has spacious and sophisticated laboratory, Museum and library. The academic pattern of BDS and MDS Pharmacology is based on Dental Council of India and The Tamilnadu Dr. MGR. Medical University, Chennai. The department also encourage the research works for Interns and Postgraduates of various specalities. Similarly, the teaching faculties are also doing the interdisciplanry research with other dental departments.

Our goal is to generate new knowledge and tools that can lead to better treatments for devastating human diseases.

MISSION

The Department of Pharmacology dedicated to teaching fundamental principles and rationale of drug therapy in undergraduate and post graduate Dental students and also to train the future dentist with the theoretical and practical aspects of Pharmacology.

Extension Activities and Collaborations:

Two-days- Handson workshop on “Breaking Antimicrobial Resistance – Newer antimicrobial drug development and testing”, organized by the Department of Pharmacology and Microbiology, Rajas Dental College and Hospital, Kavalkinaru Jn, Tirunelveli-627105, on 28 th & 29 th July 2025. Served as an Organizing Secretary.

Organized and conducted Toothpaste making competition for II BDS Students on world oral health day, in collaboration with Dept of Periodontics on 20 th march 2025.

  • Best oral presentation award: Original Research Work , “Development and evaluation of In-Vitro anti-fungal activity of novel polyherbal gel containing Solanum xanthocarpum, Psidium guajava, and Sida cardifolia.”, at ” Third International Conference on Advances in Biosciences and Biotechnology (ICABB-2026)” conducted by ​the Department of Biotechnology, Mother Teresa Women’s University, Kodaikanal ​On 12th & 13th February 2026.
  • Award for Excellence in Dental Research by the Indian Society of Dental Research at the 34th Annual Conference of ISDR, organized by Rajas Dental College and Hospital, February 2024.
  • Best Oral Presentation Award: original research work, entitled “Anti-arthritic evaluation of Cadaba indica leaf extract on FCA-induced inflammatory arthritis in Wistar male rats”  at the 2nd National Conference on Natural Products, conducted by the Department of Pharmacology, PGIMER, Chandigarh, 19–21 April 2024.
